Pompous parties were organised by the Mughals amidst the serene Hindola Mahal to celebrate their victories, and also to reiterate their authority amid the locals. Though Jahangir indulged in recreation along with his wife Nur Jahan and members of the nobility while staying at Mandu, his less obvious motive for travelling south was to oversee the Mughal campaigns in Deccan, which was soaring in this period. It was in Mandu that Khurram, the future Mughal emperor who was leading the campaign, was bequeathed with the title of Shah Jahan by his father for his many victories.
